Once the measurements have been taken care of it is time to explore the market for the right kind of door to fit the patio area. The most effective way to decide over the different types of patio doors is by looking at layout and design of the patio itself. If the patio windows are made up of glass walls a glass patio door will fit best. If a home features a screened in patio a screen door will look most appropriate. After the type of door is chosen different costs will be incurred for the different types of doors. Glass patio doors are going to cost a little bit more but can serve as storm doors that insulate the home much better. These doors tend to cost in the $200 or more range but are effective and elegant pieces to add to the patio setting.
Remove the two screws holding the bottom section of the frame. There is one screw either side of the bottom section. Once these have been removed the bottom section can be prized away from the rest of the frame. Be careful not to lever against the glass or you could shatter it. When the bottom section is clear from the rest of the frame you will be able to remove the wheels. Some wheels have a screw holding them in and some are pressed into a holding bracket. If the retaining screws have rusted you can carefully drill them out taking care not to make the hole in the bottom section any bigger. Contact your local Hardware Store Glazing Shop or search on Google for replacement wheels.
Generally timber frames are considered more traditional and can look beautiful! Hard wood such as oak is as the name suggests far more hard-wearing than a soft wood such as pine. Weather especially strong sun can take its toll on timber frames which could need to be varnished or painted annually. Wooden frames can swell and shrink with humidity therefore opening and closing doors can require force and gaps can allow draughts in colder temperatures.
Some manufactures offer optional extras such as tinted glass anti-sun laminated obscured glass and Argon-filled double-glazing. It is also possible to match existing period features by specifying Georgian bar or leaded-light in rectangular or diamond style. An innovative option is switchable privacy glass which enables molecules inside the double-glazing to become transparent or opaque at the press of a button; this is expensive though typically doubling the original price of good quality patio doors.
